Johnny joined Teamwilkey in October 2013. He held a record of one win, one draw.
Since then Johnny’s career has gone from strength to strength with many highlights. The first winning the prestigious Prizefighter Tournament at Welterweight. He won the first round with a unanimous decision against a very experienced Jason Cook. The second round saw him winning with a majority decision against a very tough Sam Eggington. In the final he came up against the outright favourite, the hard hitting Paddy Gallagher, Johnny had him down in the first round and went on to win by a unanimous decision.
Following another win Johnny went on to avenge the only blemish on his record, which was a draw against the very tough William Warburton. This time around Johnny showed his class and maturity and won on a 60-54 points decision.
After this fight we made the decision that Johnny would go down a weight to make Super Lightweight. Soon after this his first title fight, a British Masters Bronze soon followed against Liam Richards at Grays Civic Hall which was in Johnny’s backyard and so guaranteed a big crowd. This is a fight he won with score of 80-73.
Next up was Johnny’s first major title the Southern Area Super Lightweight title. This was against a tough and awkward Phil Bowes, after being shaken and rocked in the first round with a super right hook, Johnny boxed with great maturity to obtain a good win in a very hard fight.
The next title was in October at the home of boxing, York Hall Bethnal Green. It would be for the vacant WBC Youth Intercontinental Super Lightweight title against a very tough A J Faizy from Lancashire. Johnny showed great skill in cruising to a unanimous points victory.
